Persolvent is a US payment technology company based in St Paul Park, Minnesota. It helps organisations accept card and electronic payments, both by providing merchant accounts directly and by powering payments inside other companies' software through APIs and custom integrations.

Persolvent operates in two roles that are worth separating:

As a merchant services provider. Businesses that want to accept credit cards can get a merchant account and payment software from Persolvent. On its website, Persolvent identifies itself as a registered ISO/MSP (independent sales organisation / member service provider) of Fifth Third Bank, N.A.

As a payment facilitator and technology partner. Persolvent is also listed as a registered payment facilitator of Worldpay from FIS. In practice this lets software platforms embed payments for their own customers, with Persolvent handling underwriting, onboarding and funding behind the scenes.

Products and platforms

Persolvent supports a family of software products and partner platforms, including:

Persolvent has repeatedly been recognised as a Best Place to Work by the Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal. The company also says it gives 10% of its profits to charity, and that when a customer raises a concern it solves the problem itself instead of routing them to a third party.

Persolvent tends to suit organisations that need payments wired into a workflow rather than a stand-alone card terminal: a school collecting programme fees, a city taking utility or permit payments, a law or accounting practice sending invoices, or a contractor collecting deposits. Very high-volume retailers or businesses that want self-serve sign-up with published flat rates may prefer to compare the alternatives.
